Viola Starzyková
Viola Starzyková (*2004, Czech Republic)
studied printmaking and drawing at the University of Ostrava, in the studio of Josef Daněk and Libor Novotný. She initially focused on abstraction before returning to figurative drawing. She draws her formal inspiration from medieval manuscripts. She works in washed pastel on canvas – a technique that lies between drawing and painting.
Her bachelor's thesis examined the medieval depiction of gender non-binarity and compared it with contemporary queer art. She continues to explore the subject and intends to develop it further during her master's studies in art history.
She lives and works mainly in Ostrava.
