Simona Ticháčková
Simona Ticháčková (b. 1995) is a Czech painter whose work reflects on womanhood and the social position of women in a broader cultural and historical context. Her paintings draw on mythological and historical narratives, which she does not adopt literally but updates and sets within a contemporary visual and conceptual framework. Here the past becomes a means of interpreting the present. The artist works with the traditional female archetype of the femme fatale, stripping it of its stereotypical meanings in her painting and rereading it through the lens of present-day experience. These figures come across not as objects of the gaze but as active subjects of their own story. Through them the artist addresses questions of identity, power, corporeality and freedom, while emphasizing the emancipated dimension of female existence. Her painting thus oscillates between history and the present, between archetype and individual experience. The result is a visual space in which womanhood appears not as a role or a construct but as a consciously lived and confidently articulated state.
In terms of technique, her works are mostly large-format acrylic paintings on canvas, a format that allows her pronounced use of color and her distinctive, unconventional visual language to unfold fully. The intense colors carry meaning and help build the tension and atmosphere of each painting. The paintings are built up in layers. Through overlaying, covering and re-exposing motifs, appropriated imagery, whether medieval or taken from contemporary film, is deconstructed and then reconstructed. This process creates a dialogue between past and present and moves the original visual sources into new contexts.
Simona Ticháčková studied in the Painting I studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Ostrava, under the academic painter Prof. Daniel Balabán.
