Radka Tomaschek Škodová (1997) is a Slovak visual artist based in Brno. Her painting practice draws on her own experience as a woman, with a long-standing focus on figurative painting. Through the female figure she explores the relationship between body, identity and intimacy. She sees the body not as an object of representation but as a space into which personal experiences, social expectations and inner contradictions are inscribed.

In her paintings she creates situations in which the figures move along the border between exposure and concealment, presence and solitude. Fragmentary narratives and a play with the gaze open up questions about the way the female body is shaped by one's own lived experience as well as by the gaze of others. Her paintings leave the viewer room for their own interpretation and invite reflection on the relationship between what remains hidden and what is exposed to view.

She draws inspiration above all from personal experiences, which she transforms into a visual language oscillating between reality and introspection. In her current work she engages with themes of desire, temptation, control and freedom. She understands painting as a means of exploring the moments when the boundaries between the inner and outer world, between looking and being seen, become ambiguous.

She graduated from Painting Studio II led by Luděk Rathouský at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology. Alongside her art education she also studied French and public administration at Masaryk University, which fosters her interest in the philosophical, social and cultural contexts of the contemporary image.
