Parviainen Asami
Whilst living in Finland, I frequently came across Ruijus (traditional Finnish rugs with long pile) displayed on walls everywhere. Unlike paintings, I was drawn to the technique whereby the patterns appear to emerge in a semi-three-dimensional manner, and so I began creating them in 2020. My familiarity with this pixel-like style of expression may stem from my poor eyesight. To the naked eye, the world always appears as if viewed from underwater, with both outlines and colours appearing blurred. I wish to express the vague and fragmentary landscapes that exist within my memory.
