“Art is a reality that runs parallel to nature” Paul Cézanne
And I, too, work in parallel. In parallel – as though sitting behind a thick, softly undulating, transparent slab of gelatine, I observe the world, nature, society, you and me.
My world emerges from the grid. One of many possibilities for creating a world. Working with the grid may seem rigid and unyielding, but it is not. Just as the language of a poem must be bent and condensed to follow the flow, the structure, the rhythm, I bend and condense my intuited hunches into a net that will map my thoughts. It is the tracing of a thought-feeling that I have at the beginning of every new cycle of paintings. The words for it come only much later. Birgitt Fischer 2026
