Tomáš Polcar
Tomáš Polcar (*1973, Prague) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1991–1998), where he studied in the studios of Hugo Demartini, Aleš Veselý, and Milan Knížák. His work moves on the boundary between painting and sculpture. Working in thematic cycles, which he systematically develops, is characteristic of his practice. His domain is the exploration of natural and geometric principles: in the cycle Decay Begets Life, he addresses the cycle of emergence and dissolution in the landscape; in the series Atomos, he explores the principle of the circle as a fundamental indivisible unit. The cycle Soma focuses on the net, through which the artist examines the relationship between part and whole. Polcar's works reflect a bond with nature and the search for the essence of being in its elementary structures. More information at www.tomaspolcar.cz.
