Štěpán Brož

Štěpán Brož (*1992, Prague)
He is a visual artist working primarily in the field of painting, but also engaged in printmaking and illustration. He graduated with a Master's degree from the Painting Studio 1 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno (FaVU), having previously completed his Bachelor's studies at the Illustration and Graphics Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM). He took part in study residencies at CEDIM in Monterrey, Mexico, and at KASK in Ghent, Belgium. In his work, he combines the theme of rest with a critical examination of nationalist narratives, particularly in the Central European context. Through post-ironic strategies, he probes the ambivalent relationship between the individual, the landscape, and memory. Through his paintings, we can trace fragments of events unfolding in a fantastical universe, where distorted reflections of our reality emerge from a sombre atmosphere.
