Matěj Hanusch
I study sculpture restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU). In my independent work, I seek to put to use the knowledge of traditional techniques acquired through my studies and combine it with my own creative self-expression. The main starting point for my work is reality, and above all the human being situated within it. I explore the human body and the portrait – their range of movement, physicality, and formal vocabulary – modifying, exaggerating, and caricaturing them. My favourite material is wood, surrounded by which I grew up as the son of a puppeteer, though I also venture into the world of metals and stone, which I try to combine with wood.
