Markéta Pohlová Vlčková
Markéta (Pohlová) Vlčková is a graduate of Daniel Balabán's painting studio at the University of Ostrava and works as a visual artist. Her work is characterised by experimentation with media and materials and an emphasis on vivid colour. Recurring gestures and the processuality of painting reference fragments of everyday reality, as well as the rhythms of natural and architectural forms. She extends the principle of experimentation to foil paintings on blinds, exploiting their mobility and variability. Among other sources, she draws inspiration from public sculptures, opening up broader social contexts. In these works, she employs the flipping and layering of visual signs that constantly shift on the shimmering surface of the slats. She processes the transformation of family experience and the meditative act of knitting in the relief space of knitted paintings. She interweaves unravelled wool from her mother's old sweaters together with drawings by her daughters. Memory, material, and the world of childhood merge into visual form.
