Kristina Mesaroš
I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, specialising in graphic arts. I also completed my doctoral studies at the Department of Fine Arts, where my research focused on figurative painting in Southeast Asia. I also undertook several study residencies in Asia.
My painting is influenced by this part of the world, particularly in terms of light and a certain atmosphere. I pursue magical realism and seek added value in ordinary things, moments, and situations. A distinctive light or palette – I look for moments that fall outside the usual context of the landscape. I create space for the viewer to reflect, to recall a memory or a feeling they once knew. Distant travels inspired me, but nowadays my immediate surroundings, the landscape of floodplain forests, and the various symbolism of boats, herons, and sporting scenes complement my endeavour to tell a story of origins or to define my attitude towards life.
