Kateřina Pěkná

Kateřina Pěkná was born in Prague and studied from 2006 to 2012 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (FaVU VUT), in the Studio of Figurative Sculpture led by Michal Gabriel. During her studies, she completed residencies at universities in France and Romania. She currently lives in Ecuador in the Amazonian mountain rainforest. In Czechia, she worked in sculpture, painting, drawing, original porcelain, the creation of paper urns for the eco-funeral project Ke kořenům (To the Roots), and other artistic collaborations. She currently favours painting. Her work has been inspired from the outset by nature and plants, inner and dreamlike worlds, and mythologies. Plants accompany her in everyday life as well; she is deeply involved in herbalism and garden care. She is part of Bosque Medicinal – a project for the protection of the Amazon rainforest. Before the birth of her baby, she began exploring natural childbirth, and she continues to do so.
