Jaroslav Valečka (*1972) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 1991 to 1998. He supplemented his studies with internships in Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands. His work has been significantly influenced by his childhood spent in the former Sudetenland, a region severely affected by the expulsion, Soviet occupation, and devastation of the communist regime.
His paintings are held in private collections and state galleries, such as the National Gallery in Prague, GASK in Kutná Hora, the Regional Gallery in Liberec, and many others. He actively participates in exhibitions both at home and abroad; his works have been exhibited in London, New York, Munich, Venice, and Canterbury, among other places.
The world-renowned British art historian Edward-Lucien Smith wrote a monograph on his work, including it in his book *Movements in Art after 1945*. Jaroslav Valečka’s works have repeatedly been successfully auctioned at Sotheby’s.
