Emma Štěpánová
Emma Štěpánová is a multidisciplinary artist based in Prague, Czech Republic. In her work she explores the relationship and the boundaries between consciousness and the subconscious, the motifs of dreams and nightmares, as well as environmental themes connected with the destruction of aquatic ecosystems. In examining the shifting nuances of these interactions, she focuses both on the existence of these phenomena and on their demise. During an internship at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden, Štěpánová began to take a closer interest in working with beeswax – a material that offers both technological and expressive possibilities. At present, her work concentrates on space and on how it can become an autonomous element of the artwork, as she searches for ways to push the boundaries of materials and their natural forms.
She studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště, specialising in ceramics and porcelain design. She then continued her studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, in the Sculpture 1 studio. She is currently a recent graduate of the Sculpture 2 studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
She has presented her work at the Světova 1 gallery, Industra Gallery and the gallery of the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, among others. She has also exhibited at the Contemporary Art Festival in Prostějov, the Pokoje show and the Prototyp festival.
