Barbora Vovsová
In 2018 I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), from the sculpture studio of Lukáš Rittstein. I am primarily interested in everything related to the origin, growth, cycle, and composition of matter in its elemental form. I explore microstructures and the inner architecture of organisms and substances, the principles of propagation and multiplication in plants, animals, and minerals. Through my work I emulate the creative processes found in nature, applying principles drawn from folk art and architecture. My sculptures typically emerge from assembling small modular elements into complex forms. I prefer working with materials such as wax, wood, and concrete. At the same time I practise drawing, which is the starting point for most of my work – it helps me organise my thoughts and process personal experiences.
