Annie Brown
Annie Brown (1999, Essex, England) graduated in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London (2026). She works in a range of mediums such as acrylic paint, acrylic ink, PVA, house paint, Indian ink.
Annie Brown situates herself as a mediator of colours through the multiplicities of the language of painting. Parts rip off of each other, floating out of range. Colours muddy over, becoming far removed from the tangible. The marks act in forces against or in harmony with each other, dealing with movement and magnetism, repellents and dances. Illusion is created through different colours placed alongside each other.
Poetry exists adjacent to the painting, bringing forward rhythm, beat, intensity; an understanding of correspondence. “You are dancing over the subject, meanwhile I am dancing over you.”
Hue, tonality, saturation, and opacity; the surface conditions the expressiveness of each of these. She does not look much further than these facts and has little interest in exploiting painting for extrinsic “issues.” The surface is crucial and she uses a variety of techniques to make best use of the relationship between colour and its facture.
